VQueen 4 Favre

Sunday, February 7th, 2010

I support the effort to bring Brett Favre back to the Vikings for one more year.  Yes, I was one of those Purple fans who despised him when he wore Green & Gold and this year showed us why we did!  After the loss to the Saints (it hurts me to even write that) Brett gained more of my admiration.  What an athlete!  Also, his leadership, support of our community, and getting to know him through the media more then ever, helped me to gain utmost respect for him personally and professionally.  Plus, seeing him in those Wranglers in the elevator in Arizona put me over the top!

Check out this guys effort to support the Bring Back Brett mission.  LIKE IT!!

Vikings New Stadium: Ladies Take Action

Thursday, February 12th, 2009

Calling all women that are passionate about the Purple and have that “Because I Can” attitude!  Let’s join together and take action towards a new Vikings stadium being built in this town.  Do you want to keep them here?  Women are being a stronger force then ever in the NFL stands.  C’mon….let’s show em’ what we got in Minnesota!!  Other cities that host other NFL teams seem to get it done!  It’s time for state leaders to stop blowing the whistle and flagging us every year and take positive action to a stadium solution.

The times are tougher then ever in 2009, but we need to look at what the approval of a new stadium being built could mean:

  • The stadium development project would add thousands of construction jobs during a time when employment is desperately needed.
  • Significant economic boost for the State of Minnesota

2009 needs to be the year with only 30 more games remaining at the Metrodome.  Financing a stadium will keep the Vikings’ on the 2012 timeline to open a new stadium, which is CRITICAL due to rising construction costs and the team’s Metrodome lease set to expire after the 2011 season.  What will building a new home for the Vikings do:

  • Dramatically improve the fan experience at games
  • Help the franchise meet basic NFL program requirements
  • Generate revenue to keep the team competitive over the long term
  • KEEP THEM HERE TO CONTINUE TO SUPPORT OUR COMMUNITY!

The ultimate goal of the proposed new stadium is to build the “best” stadium at the lowest cost and in doing so, take advantage of existing stadium infrastructure at the Metrodome site and utilize new green technology to deliver a building that performs with renewable and sustainable energy.  There are three key elements that go beyond hosting Vikings’ home games:

  • A retractable-roof stadium that will give Minnesotans a venue to be used year-round for high school and amateur sports, trade shows, community and cultural events, etc.
  • A Winter Garden light rail train station that will serve as a connecting point for future light rail lines.  This gathering place will host indoor/outdoor activities for transit riders, neighborhood residents, downtown workers and attendees of the stadium events.
  • A privately financed redevelopment of the Downtown East area that will include office buildings, residences, shops and restaurants.  In turn, creating jobs, boosting the economy and bringing a renewed energy to Minneapolis!

The retractable-roof stadium would engage the city with an end zone view of downtown Minneapolis. It would also allow Minnesota to host another Super Bowl and other national events like NCAA basketball tournaments and soccer games.

Let’s not relive what happened when our favorite hockey team left the state.  We couldn’t live without them and thank goodness hockey came back to Minnesota. The Vikings have been a part of the Minnesota Sports Scene for more then 45 years!  Let’s support them so they can also continue to support this community.
